Flagstaff, Arizona – Hot, dry, and unstable air over northern Arizona will fuel daily thunderstorm chances and raise fire weather concerns through at least Sunday, with temperatures hovering near 90°F in Flagstaff and winds gusting up to 28 mph by Thursday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service, a weak monsoonal pattern will continue to bring a 20 to 40 percent chance of isolated storms each afternoon and evening, beginning Thursday. Flagstaff’s high is forecast to reach 91°F, with breezy southwest winds increasing fire danger, especially along US-180 and I-40 corridors. Stronger gusts are expected near open terrain and higher elevations, with the potential to down small branches or kick up dust.

Flagstaff, Williams, and Sedona could see brief rainfall, lightning, and sudden wind shifts during these storms. Although coverage remains limited, residents should remain alert for rapidly changing weather. Hikers and campers should avoid exposed ridgelines in the afternoons, and drivers are urged to slow down during sudden downpours or dust reductions.

The pattern remains unstable into early next week, with temperatures staying in the upper 80s to low 90s and a continued chance for afternoon convection.
