FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Northern Arizona will stay soggy through the weekend as multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms push across the region, keeping travel conditions wet and at times hazardous. Periods of heavy rain could slow drivers on I-40 and local highways through late Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service in Flagstaff, storms are most likely during the daytime hours Friday and Saturday, with rain chances topping 80 percent on Saturday. Thunderstorms may bring gusty winds of up to 24 mph and localized flooding in low-lying areas.

Flagstaff neighborhoods and surrounding mountain communities should prepare for reduced visibility and slick roads, especially along U.S. 89 and I-17. Campers and outdoor visitors are urged to secure gear, avoid washes, and seek shelter when thunder is heard.

By Sunday evening, rain chances begin to taper off, with skies clearing into Monday. Sunshine is expected to return next week, bringing calmer conditions and highs climbing into the upper 60s to near 70.

Showers remain likely through Sunday, but clearer skies Monday will mark a shift back to drier weather for northern Arizona.
