Fitchburg, Wisconsin – Three people were injured after a vehicle crashed into a building along the West Beltline Highway.
According to the Fitchburg Police Department, officers responded at approximately 11:43 a.m. Wednesday to the 1600 block of the West Beltline Highway following reports that a vehicle had struck a building. Police said three people inside the building were injured as a result of the crash.
Authorities stated that two of the injured individuals sustained serious injuries. Emergency medical personnel provided care at the scene before transporting all three injured people to a local hospital. Their current conditions were not released.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation, police said. Officials added that there is no indication at this time that the crash was intentional.
The Dane County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Team is assisting with the investigation to determine how the vehicle left the roadway and struck the building. Fitchburg Police said multiple agencies responded to the incident, including Fitchburg Fire Rescue, the City of Madison Fire Department, Fitch-Rona EMS, and Brooklyn Fire and EMS.
Investigators did not release details about what caused the crash or whether speed, impairment, or mechanical issues may have been factors. The investigation remains ongoing.
Traffic in the area may have been affected during the emergency response and investigation. Drivers traveling along the West Beltline Highway were advised to use caution and expect potential delays while crews worked at the scene.
