Fitchburg, WI – A 28-year-old man is in critical condition following an officer-involved shooting in Fitchburg on Monday morning. Fitchburg police responded to a 911 call about a physical disturbance around 8:00 a.m. at a residence on the 800 block of Whispering Pines Way.
According to the Fitchburg Police Department, officers encountered a man armed with a knife inside the residence. After the man refused multiple commands to drop the weapon, one officer fired, striking the man. The injured man was given medical aid at the scene before being transported to a hospital.
The Wisconsin Department of Justice’s Division of Criminal Investigation is leading the investigation into the shooting, while Fitchburg police continue to investigate the initial domestic disturbance. The officer involved, a sergeant with 14 years of service, has been placed on administrative duty pending the outcome of the investigation. No officers were injured in the incident.
