Lincoln, IL – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Central Illinois says the region will experience its first hint of winter weather tonight as rain transitions to snow late Saturday night into early Sunday morning.
Rain will begin overspreading the area this afternoon, moving from west to east. Areas near and east of Interstate 57 will likely stay dry until closer to sunset. The heaviest precipitation is expected this evening, with the changeover to snow occurring later tonight — mainly northwest of the Illinois River before spreading southeast toward I-70 overnight.
Forecasters note that while most locations will see little or no accumulation, there is a 10–15% chance for a narrow band of 1–2 inches of snow, particularly from Canton to Hoopeston. If snow does occur, it will likely fall between midnight and sunrise.
Temperatures will turn sharply colder by Sunday, marking a significant drop from today’s mild conditions.
