Providence, RI – The first snowfall of the season could brush parts of Rhode Island just before Thanksgiving, as a surge of colder air moves into southern New England later this month.

According to the NOAA Climate Prediction Center (CPC) outlook issued October 24, 2025, temperatures across the Ocean State are expected to stay above normal through mid-November, keeping early snow away. But forecasters say a shift to cooler air between November 18–24 could allow for light snow or flurries inland, especially around Providence, Warwick, and Cranston.

Coastal communities will likely stay rain-only, but if colder air arrives faster than expected, brief snow showers could develop across central Rhode Island. NOAA notes that while any accumulation should stay light, timing near the Thanksgiving travel period could cause minor disruptions.

The late-November chill would mark Rhode Island’s first hint of winter — and an early preview of what’s to come for December.
