Pittsburgh, PA – Pennsylvania may see its first snowfall of the season before Thanksgiving, as colder air pushes south and lake-effect systems strengthen in the second half of November, according to the NOAA Climate Prediction Center (CPC).
The October 24, 2025 NOAA forecast shows a warmer, quieter start to November, with little precipitation early on. But beginning around November 15–23, temperatures are expected to dip, increasing the odds for light to moderate snow in Pittsburgh, Harrisburg, and Scranton, especially during overnight hours.
Western Pennsylvania could see its first flakes from lake-effect snow off Lake Erie, while central and northeastern regions may catch light snow or wintry mix if colder air meets passing moisture.
Philadelphia and southeastern areas, meanwhile, should stay rain-only, with temperatures remaining above freezing until later in the month.
While totals should remain light, NOAA warns that even early-season flurries could create slick roads for holiday travelers across I-76, I-80, and I-81 heading into Thanksgiving week.
