Charleston, WV – The first snowflakes of the season could soon blanket parts of West Virginia, as colder air moves into the Appalachian region ahead of Thanksgiving, according to the NOAA Climate Prediction Center (CPC).

NOAA’s October 24, 2025 outlook shows a mild, dry start to November across most of the state. But by November 15–23, forecasters expect temperatures to dip enough for light to moderate snow in Morgantown, Elkins, and higher mountain areas, while Charleston and the southern valleys stay mainly rain or flurries.

Forecasters say the Allegheny Mountains could see the first measurable accumulation of the season, especially at elevations above 2,000 feet. Any early snow would likely be light, but with Thanksgiving travel beginning late in the month, even minor slick spots could create delays along I-68 and I-79.

While not a major winter event, NOAA notes this pattern shift marks the start of West Virginia’s transition into winter, right on cue for late November.
