Albany, NY – After a mild start to November, Upstate New York could be in for its first measurable snow of the season as colder air and lake-effect systems return closer to Thanksgiving week.
According to the NOAA Climate Prediction Center (CPC) update released October 24, 2025, temperatures will remain above normal across much of New York through early November. But by November 15–23, a shift toward colder and wetter conditions is expected, opening the door for light to moderate snow in Albany, Syracuse, and Buffalo.
Forecasters say lake-effect snow is most likely for western and central New York, with Buffalo and Syracuse seeing the highest potential for early accumulation. Eastern and southern areas, including Albany and the Hudson Valley, may see flurries or a brief wintry mix if temperatures drop quickly near Thanksgiving.
While no major storm is expected yet, NOAA warns that even light early snow could cause slick roads and visibility issues for travelers heading into the holiday weekend.
