Roanoke, VA – After a mild start to November, Virginia may get its first taste of winter just before Thanksgiving, as colder air moves into the state’s higher elevations and northern counties.
According to the NOAA Climate Prediction Center (CPC) outlook issued October 24, 2025, Virginia will stay warmer and mostly dry through early November. However, forecasters say a cold front expected between November 18–24 could bring light snow or flurries to areas like Roanoke, Winchester, and the Blue Ridge Parkway, while Richmond and coastal regions likely remain too warm for accumulation.
The Shenandoah Valley and western slopes could see brief periods of light snow, mainly in the mornings or overnight hours, as colder air dips southward. While totals should stay minor, the timing near Thanksgiving week could bring the first icy travel patches of the season.
Forecasters emphasize this isn’t a major system, but it could mark Virginia’s first winter weather of 2025 — right on time for the holidays.
