Asheville, NC – The first snowflakes of the season could arrive across parts of western North Carolina just before Thanksgiving, as colder air and early winter systems move into the Appalachians, according to the NOAA Climate Prediction Center (CPC).

The October 24, 2025 outlook shows above-normal temperatures early in the month, keeping most of the state in a fall-like pattern through mid-November. However, forecasters expect a shift to colder air around November 18–24, which could bring light snow or flurries to Asheville, Boone, and higher elevations along the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Charlotte and the Piedmont are likely to stay too warm for snow, seeing only cold rain and frost as Thanksgiving approaches. Still, the western mountains could see the first measurable snow of the season if a Pacific system meets Arctic air just before the holiday.

NOAA says this won’t be a major winter storm but may serve as a seasonal preview for what’s ahead in December across the Carolinas.
