Indianapolis, IN – Indiana could see its first measurable snow of the season just before Thanksgiving, as colder air and potential lake-effect systems push into the Midwest, according to the NOAA Climate Prediction Center (CPC).

NOAA’s October 24, 2025 outlook calls for above-normal temperatures through early November. However, by November 15–23, forecasters expect a significant drop in temperatures across the Great Lakes, bringing chances for light snow or flurries in Fort Wayne, South Bend, and northern Indiana, with Indianapolis possibly seeing a mix of rain and snow.

Lake-effect activity along the Michigan border could produce light accumulation—generally less than an inch—but even minor snow could cause slick roads during early holiday travel.

Southern Indiana will likely remain too warm for snow, though morning frost could develop as Thanksgiving approaches. NOAA says this system would mark the first widespread winter signal for Indiana heading into December.
