Milwaukee, WI – The National Weather Service is forecasting the first measurable snow of the season for southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois late Saturday into early Sunday.
According to the US National Weather Service Milwaukee/Sullivan, a narrow band of steady snow is expected to develop along and just north of the Wisconsin–Illinois border between 6 p.m. Saturday and 6 a.m. Sunday. Forecasters say up to one inch of slushy accumulation is possible, especially on grassy and elevated surfaces.
Precipitation will begin as rain Saturday afternoon before transitioning to a rain/snow mix or all snow overnight. The exact track of the low-pressure system will determine where the heaviest snow occurs. Areas farther north may see only scattered flurries.
In addition to the snowfall, the first winter air mass of the season will settle in through Tuesday, bringing gusty northwest winds and frigid wind chills. Temperatures Sunday night are forecast to dip into the upper teens, with wind chills in the single digits.
Travelers should use caution if driving Saturday night or early Sunday morning, as slick spots may develop. Conditions are expected to gradually improve Monday as winds turn southwesterly and temperatures rise.
