Anchorage, AK – Alaska is bracing for its first major snow of the season ahead of Thanksgiving, as colder Arctic air combines with strong Pacific moisture, according to the NOAA Climate Prediction Center (CPC).
The October 24, 2025 NOAA forecast shows seasonably cool temperatures early this month, but a mid-November pattern shift could bring widespread snow and subfreezing temperatures to much of the state between November 10–20.
Forecasters expect Anchorage and Fairbanks to see 2–6 inches of new snow, with locally higher totals inland. Juneau and Southeast Alaska could experience rain-to-snow transitions as temperatures fall later in the period.
Travel conditions could deteriorate along major routes including the Glenn Highway and Parks Highway, with wind chills dropping well below zero in the interior. NOAA says this system may mark the official start of Alaska’s winter, setting up persistent snow cover through December.
