Crest Hill, IL – Firefighters responded to a large blaze at a Crest Hill recycling facility on Friday, working tirelessly to contain the flames. The fire began around 2:17 p.m. at 2 Genstar Lane, where crews discovered a large scrap pile ablaze. The Joliet Fire Department was already at the scene when the Lockport Township Fire Protection District arrived to assist, along with multiple other agencies.

Crews continue to battle the fire, which involved an extensive amount of recyclable materials. According to the Lockport Fire District, no buildings were damaged, and no injuries have been reported. Workers present during the fire escaped unharmed.

The fire’s intensity prompted a full still alarm, bringing additional help from surrounding fire departments. Due to limited hydrants at the site, neighboring departments supplied water tenders to support firefighting efforts.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with firefighters expected to remain on site until full containment.
