Norman, OK – A Red Flag Warning remains in effect across much of Oklahoma through Tuesday evening as dangerous fire weather conditions persist. Strong winds, low humidity, and warm temperatures have created an extreme wildfire threat, prompting officials to urge caution.
According to the National Weather Service in Norman, Monday’s conditions include southwest winds between 20 to 30 mph, with gusts reaching 45 mph. Relative humidity is expected to drop as low as 9% in some areas, while temperatures may climb up to 87 degrees. These factors significantly increase the risk of rapidly spreading wildfires, making outdoor burning highly dangerous.
By Tuesday, fire weather conditions are forecasted to intensify further. Wind gusts could reach 55 mph, with temperatures peaking at 91 degrees in some locations. Relative humidity will remain critically low, further exacerbating wildfire risks. The Fire Weather Watch initially issued for Tuesday has now been upgraded to a Red Flag Warning, signaling an extended period of hazardous conditions.
Authorities strongly advise against outdoor burning and urge residents to remain vigilant. Any fires that develop will likely spread quickly, posing a serious threat to property and public safety. Residents should stay updated on local fire restrictions and be prepared for emergency response measures if needed.
