Elko, NV – Central Nevada and western Utah are under an elevated fire weather alert for Wednesday as strong winds and dry conditions heighten the risk of wildfires. The National Weather Service has forecasted winds of 15 to 20 mph across the region, combined with fuels that have dried out after an extended period of above-normal temperatures.
Residents are advised to avoid any outdoor burning and secure outdoor objects. Fire danger will be especially pronounced in rural areas along U.S. Highway 50 and State Route 278, where wind gusts could cause fires to spread rapidly.
According to the NWS, the fire risk will remain elevated through Wednesday evening. Locals should stay updated on weather alerts and avoid unnecessary outdoor activities that could spark fires.
