Cincinnati, OH – Dry and windy conditions are raising the risk of wildfires across parts of Ohio and Kentucky today, prompting a warning from the National Weather Service.
According to the NWS in Wilmington, relative humidity levels between 20 and 25 percent, combined with southwest wind gusts of up to 20 mph, will create an elevated fire danger this afternoon and early evening. The warning covers several counties, including Licking, Fairfield, Ross, Clermont, Brown, and Highland in Ohio, as well as Pendleton, Bracken, Robertson, Mason, and Lewis in Kentucky.
Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning, as any spark could quickly spread due to the dry conditions. Fire officials recommend securing outdoor equipment that could produce sparks and properly disposing of cigarettes to reduce fire risks.
The elevated fire danger is expected to diminish by late evening as humidity increases and winds calm. Authorities advise checking local restrictions before burning and remaining cautious with any activities that could ignite flames.
