Abilene, TX – Strong west winds and dry conditions will lead to an increased fire weather risk across portions of Texas south of I-20 on Saturday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Abilene/San Angelo. Residents are urged to take precautions as fire conditions worsen throughout the day.
According to the NWS, humidity values will drop while winds increase to 15–25 mph, with higher gusts possible. These conditions will allow wildfires to ignite and spread more rapidly. The highest fire danger is expected between 12 p.m. and 6 p.m.
Officials advise against outdoor burning and recommend taking precautions such as ensuring chains on vehicles do not drag and avoiding parking on dry grass. Residents should also secure objects that could be carried by strong winds and remain alert for emergency updates.
The fire risk is part of an ongoing pattern of dry weather affecting Texas, increasing wildfire potential. For the latest updates, visit the NWS website or follow local emergency management services.
