Houston, TX – Red Flag Warnings are in effect across large portions of Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Nebraska as critical fire weather conditions persist through Saturday evening. The National Weather Service (NWS) has warned that a combination of strong winds, low humidity, and dry vegetation will create an environment conducive to rapid wildfire growth.
According to the NWS, Texas will see widespread fire risks, particularly in Southeast, Central, and West Texas, including Houston, San Antonio, and Austin. Wind gusts up to 45 mph and relative humidity levels dropping as low as 10% will increase fire danger. In Deep South Texas and the Rio Grande Valley, conditions will remain critical through 7 p.m. CDT.
Oklahoma and Kansas are also under Red Flag Warnings, with winds reaching 40 mph and humidity levels plunging below 15%. The Oklahoma Panhandle, Northern Texas Panhandle, and parts of Western Kansas are at significant risk. In Nebraska, portions of the Sandhills and Loess Plains face elevated fire threats with similar wind and humidity patterns.
Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning, properly dispose of cigarettes, and report any fires to local authorities. Firefighters remain on high alert as dry conditions persist. Officials advise staying updated through the National Weather Service and local emergency management agencies.
