Addison, IL – A major structure fire broke out Wednesday morning in Addison, prompting a large-scale emergency response and a full road closure on Lake Street as crews continue to battle the blaze.
According to a press release from the Addison Fire Protection District #1, firefighters were dispatched to the 300 block of West Lake Street around 10:49 a.m. after reports of a structure fire. Responders found heavy smoke and fire upon arrival, prompting an escalation to a special alarm response and a complete traffic shutdown by Addison Police.
Crews attempted an interior attack before shifting to a defensive approach at approximately 11:13 a.m. A MABAS box alarm was activated, drawing support from about 15 neighboring agencies to contain the fire and assist with other local emergency needs.
The incident remains active, and Lake Street is expected to stay closed in both directions for several hours while fire personnel conduct an extensive overhaul to ensure all fire and safety hazards are addressed.
Authorities confirmed there were no civilian injuries. One firefighter sustained a minor injury, was treated at the scene, and later transported to a local hospital for evaluation.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Addison Fire Protection District and the DuPage County Fire and Arson Task Force.
Drivers are strongly encouraged to seek alternate routes and avoid the area until emergency crews have cleared the scene.
