Lombard, IL – A house fire early Saturday morning in Lombard prompted a swift response from multiple fire departments, leaving the home on S Highland Avenue uninhabitable but resulting in no reported injuries.
According to a Lombard Fire Department news release, crews were dispatched around 5:10 a.m. to the 500 block of W. Edgewood Road after reports of heavy smoke coming from the eaves of the residence. Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed the homeowner had safely evacuated.
Crews reportedly arrived on scene by 5:16 a.m. and quickly deployed multiple hose lines to tackle the flames. Firefighters worked both inside and outside the home, using ladders to reach the roof and create cut openings to release smoke and heat. The fire was brought under control by 5:30 a.m. after a full search confirmed no additional occupants.
Utility providers ComEd and Nicor were called to the scene, with ComEd performing a remote electrical shut-off and Nicor securing the gas service to the home, according to officials. There were no reported injuries to civilians or firefighters, but the home sustained extensive damage estimated at over $80,000. The Lombard Fire Investigation Unit is reportedly investigating the cause.
Firefighters from Elmhurst, Oak Brook, Oakbrook Terrace, and Villa Park assisted during the incident, along with the York Center Fire Protection District. The DuPage County Sheriff’s Office reportedly handled traffic and crowd control.
