Binghamton, NY – Residents across the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes regions can expect a chilly night ahead, with temperatures dipping low enough for frost formation by early Friday morning.

According to the US National Weather Service in Binghamton, Thursday will stay mostly sunny with highs in the lower to mid-50s. However, clear skies overnight will allow temperatures to drop sharply, falling into the low- to mid-30s in many areas.

A Frost Advisory has been issued for Luzerne and Lackawanna counties, where frost could damage sensitive plants and mark the end of the growing season. Other nearby areas — including the Finger Lakes and Wyoming Valley — are also likely to see patchy frost, especially in sheltered valleys.

Residents are urged to take precautions to protect plants and outdoor equipment. The Weather Service says the next chance of rain will arrive late Sunday into Monday, bringing a milder air mass.

Friday morning commuters should be cautious of slick or frosty windshields before sunrise, as temperatures are expected to hover near freezing in colder valleys.
