Fife Lake Township, MI – A 54-year-old man from Fife Lake was killed early Thursday morning in a multi-vehicle crash on US-131 near Elliott Road, according to the Grand Traverse County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded around 7:25 a.m. on October 16, 2025, after reports of a traffic crash involving a dark-colored Dodge Caravan, a Ford Explorer, a Chevy Express van, and a box truck.

According to investigators, a 21-year-old Traverse City man was driving the Caravan northbound when he allegedly attempted to pass another vehicle and sideswiped a Ford Explorer. The Caravan then lost control, crossed the center line, and struck a southbound box truck before that truck collided with a northbound Chevy Express work van.

The 54-year-old Fife Lake man driving the van was pronounced dead at the scene. The 50-year-old Traverse City man operating the box truck and the 42-year-old Muskegon man driving the Ford Explorer were both uninjured.

The Sheriff’s Office said the Michigan State Police, Wexford County Sheriff’s Office, and multiple EMS crews assisted at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
