West Union, IA – A tractor accident in rural Fayette County caused significant damage Tuesday morning but left the driver unharmed, according to authorities.
The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office reported that the crash occurred at approximately 10:29 a.m. on Sept. 26 near 11702 U Avenue. Deputies said a McCormick tractor pulling a batwing mower rolled into a ditch after a rear tire blew out.
According to the sheriff’s office, the tractor was driven by Rodney Bunn, 58, of Story City. Bunn was heading north on U Avenue when he moved over to meet another vehicle. That’s when the tire gave way, sending the tractor and mower into the ditch.
Bunn was not injured, but officials estimated the equipment sustained about $10,000 in damage. Emergency crews including Westgate Fire and Ambulance Service, Tieskoetter Collision Center, and McDevitt’s Repair and Towing from Waverly assisted at the scene.
The sheriff’s office reminded drivers to use caution on rural roads where farm equipment is common, especially during harvest season.
