Fayette, IA – The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office has kicked off the school year with several new “Invest and Prevent” classes across local schools, including West Central, NFV Middle School, and Starmont. The program, launched this fall, is aimed at helping students navigate challenges like bullying, vaping, and mental health concerns.
According to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, the classes were created from surveys and teacher feedback highlighting what middle school students—particularly those in grades six through eight—are struggling with most. In September, deputies began leading sessions on Mental Health and Bullying awareness, emphasizing prevention and open communication.
The “Invest and Prevent” program focuses on building stronger relationships between students and law enforcement while teaching valuable life skills. Topics include Drugs, Alcohol, and Vaping, Dangerous Situations, Bullying and Cyberbullying, and Internet Safety. The Sheriff’s Office also provides a dedicated class on Mental Health awareness.
“We want to take a proactive approach with our students and give them the tools to be successful in their futures,” the office shared. Parents or schools interested in future sessions can contact the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office at 563-422-6067.
