Elgin, IA – Two separate incidents in Fayette County on Sunday led to multiple arrests after deputies responded to a crash and a suspicious vehicle report in the Elgin and Stanley areas.

According to the Fayette County Sheriffโ€™s Office, the first incident happened Sunday at approximately 4:52 p.m. in the 1500 block of 245th Street in Elgin. Authorities say a single-vehicle crash prompted a 911 call, with reports that two men allegedly attempted to leave the scene on foot. Upon arrival, deputies determined that Michael Richard Stodola, 44, of Clermont, was allegedly intoxicated and was arrested for public intoxication, a simple misdemeanor. Investigators say William Durnan, 49, of Elgin, was allegedly operating the vehicle while intoxicated and was arrested on charges of operating while intoxicated, first offense, and failure to maintain control. Both men were transported to the Fayette County Sheriffโ€™s Office for initial appearances. The sheriffโ€™s office noted that the incident was assisted by the Oelwein Police Department.

Later that evening, at approximately 8:18 p.m., deputies responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the 4000 block of N Avenue in Stanley. Authorities located the vehicle in the 13000 block of 40th Street. Following an investigation, officials allege that the driver, Carter Thomas Nolan, 25, of Maynard, was intoxicated. Nolan was arrested and charged with operating while under the influence, third or subsequent offense, a felony. He was transported to the Fayette County Jail pending an initial court appearance. The Iowa State Patrol assisted in that incident.

Both cases remain under investigation, and all suspects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in court.
