West Union, IA – A two-vehicle crash on Highway 3 near Oran left one man injured and both vehicles totaled this morning, according to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office.
The collision happened around 8:05 a.m. Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at the intersection of Highway 3 and Y Avenue, about two miles north of Oran.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, 27-year-old Jason Brian Smith of Grundy Center was driving a 2007 Isuzu NPR westbound when another driver allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign. Deputies say 36-year-old Evgenii Mamleev of Redmond, Washington, was driving a 2025 Ford F-350 truck with a PJ semi-trailer northbound on Y Avenue when he attempted a wide turn onto Highway 3 and struck Smith’s vehicle.
The impact caused Smith’s Isuzu to roll before sliding to a stop. Smith was briefly trapped but freed without mechanical tools. He was transported to Allen Hospital in Waterloo by Fairbank Ambulance with undisclosed injuries.
Authorities say Mamleev was not injured but was cited for failure to obey a stop sign. Both the Ford and the Isuzu sustained total damage, while the trailer had minor damage.
The Sheriff’s Office reported assistance from the Oran Fire Department, Oran First Responders, Fairbank Ambulance, and the Iowa State Patrol.
