St. Louis, MO – A stolen vehicle chase ended in a fatal crash near Goodfellow and St. Louis on Wednesday.
According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, officers assigned to the Mobile Reserve attempted to stop the stolen vehicle around 12:20 p.m. near Goodfellow and St. Louis. Officers deployed spike strips, but the driver of the stolen vehicle reversed to avoid them, nearly hitting two officers in the process. The vehicle then fled at a high rate of speed, violating several traffic signals.
The chase concluded when the stolen vehicle collided at the intersection of Goodfellow and Page, causing it to overturn. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger of the stolen vehicle was taken into custody and transported to an area hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Two occupants of the other vehicle involved in the collision were also transported to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
The Force Investigation Unit, with assistance from the Accident Reconstruction Unit, is investigating the incident. Authorities are reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses to piece together the events leading up to the crash. The names of those involved have not yet been released.
