Indianapolis, IN – An 82-year-old woman died in a house fire Thursday afternoon on Chisholm Trail in Indianapolis. Firefighters arrived after a neighbor called 911, reporting smoke and an attempt to extinguish flames with a garden hose.
According to the Indianapolis Fire Department, crews arrived around 4:41 p.m. and found smoke pouring from the single-story home. Firefighters quickly entered the home and located the female occupant, who tragically did not survive.
The fire was brought under control within 15 minutes, preventing further damage to neighboring homes. Officials said the cause of the fire is under investigation, and no other injuries were reported.
The Indianapolis Fire Department praised the swift response of its crews and extended condolences to the victim’s loved ones. “Our thoughts are with all those affected,” the department stated.
Neighbors described the woman as a kind presence in the community, expressing shock at the sudden loss.
