Shelby, IN – An 18-year-old from Bradley, Illinois, died early Thursday morning following a motor vehicle accident in Lake County, Indiana.
According to the Lake County Coroner’s Office, the crash occurred around 4:18 a.m. near Colfax and West 231st Avenue in Shelby. Emergency teams from the Lake County Coroner’s Medicolegal Death Investigation Team responded to the scene, where the victim, identified as Carson Kelly, was pronounced dead at 5:13 a.m.
Officials stated that Kelly suffered multiple injuries as a result of the accident. A forensic autopsy was conducted later Thursday at the Lake County Forensic Science Center in Crown Point, with the cause of death listed as multiple injuries due to a motor vehicle accident. Toxicology results are still pending.
Kelly’s family was notified on scene. The Lake County Sheriff’s Department and Lake County CSI were also involved in the investigation.
Residents traveling through Shelby are advised to use caution in the area as the investigation remains ongoing. No further details regarding the cause or circumstances of the crash have been released.
