Joliet, IL – A traffic crash on Essington Road claimed the life of a 77-year-old woman this morning, with two vehicles involved in a collision near the intersection of Essington Road and Caton Farm Road.
At 7:44 a.m. on April 9, 2025, Joliet police responded to the crash scene where preliminary investigations revealed that a Buick Enclave, driven by a 71-year-old man from Joliet, was traveling northbound on Essington Road. The vehicle was turning left onto westbound Caton Farm Road when it was struck on the passenger side by a southbound Ford F-150 driven by a 19-year-old man from Crest Hill.
Both drivers sustained minor injuries and were transported to St. Joseph Medical Center by the Joliet Fire Department. Unfortunately, the 77-year-old female passenger in the Buick was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Authorities believe the traffic light was green for both northbound and southbound lanes of Essington Road at the time of the incident. The roadway was closed temporarily as investigators reconstructed the crash scene.
The identity of the deceased woman and the official cause of death will be determined by the Will County Coroner’s Office. The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information or video footage is asked to contact the Joliet Police Department Traffic Unit at (815) 724-3193.
