Morris, IL – A tragic accident on I-80 near mile marker 109 has resulted in at least one fatality, leading to the shutdown of eastbound lanes on Tuesday afternoon. According to the Morris Fire Protection and Ambulance District, a car became lodged under the rear of a semi-truck, requiring extensive extrication efforts.
The crash, which occurred shortly before noon, prompted a significant emergency response, including the deployment of a Lifestar helicopter. Authorities have confirmed that at least one person has died as a result of the collision, but further details about the victims have not been released.
Eastbound traffic on I-80 is being diverted at the Seneca exit as crews work to clear the scene. The interstate is expected to remain closed for several hours as the Illinois State Police conduct their investigation. Motorists are urged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes, with heavy congestion reported on Routes 6 and 47.
