Silver Creek Township, MI – A single-vehicle crash claimed the life of a driver in Cass County on Thursday. The accident occurred on Garrett Road, just north of M-62 Highway.
The driver’s vehicle was traveling southbound when it crossed the center line, veered off the road, and rolled into a field. Cass County Sheriff Richard J. Behnke reported that the driver was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at Borgess Lee Memorial Hospital.
The passenger in the vehicle was also transported to Borgess Lee Memorial Hospital but refused treatment. The authorities ruled out alcohol and drugs as factors in the crash.
Assisting at the scene were the Pokagon Tribal Police, Dowagiac Police, Indian Lake Fire Department, and other first responders. The crash is under investigation, and the names of those involved are withheld pending notification of their families.
