Blanchard, ID – Two people, including one minor, lost their lives in a crash near Blanchard on Saturday. The incident occurred around 9 p.m. on State Highway 41 when a 50-year-old Spirit Lake man attempted to pass a slow-moving vehicle in his Toyota truck. Moving into the northbound lane, his truck collided with a Yamaha dirt bike traveling in the opposite direction.
According to the Idaho State Police (ISP), the dirt bike, operated by a minor, was without headlights at the time of the collision. Both the truck driver and the minor were pronounced dead at the scene due to their injuries. ISP also reported that the Toyota driver was not wearing a seatbelt.
The fatal crash caused the highway to be blocked for approximately five hours as authorities conducted their investigation. The road has since been reopened to traffic. The identities of the victims have not been released pending notification of family members. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances leading to the tragic collision.
