Indianapolis, IN — A family in Indianapolis lost their 3-year-old labradoodle, Izzy, in a devastating house fire early Wednesday. The fire began in the garage of their home on Parcrest Court, quickly spreading throughout the house.
According to the Indianapolis Fire Department (IFD), the family initially smelled smoke and tried to retrieve the dog but were forced to evacuate. Firefighters arrived to find thick black smoke filling the garage and much of the home. Despite efforts to contain the blaze, the garage was destroyed, and significant damage extended to the rest of the house.
Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire. The family, who has lived in the home for eight years, was checked by paramedics on the scene and released. Fortunately, no human injuries were reported.
The home, while insured, suffered extensive fire and smoke damage. The loss of their beloved dog adds to the heartbreak for the family as they recover from the tragedy.
