False Pass, Alaska – A minor earthquake struck offshore south of the Aleutian chain late Saturday morning, registering quickly on seismic monitors but posing no immediate threat to communities.

According to the Alaska Earthquake Center, the magnitude 3.0 quake occurred at 12:58 p.m. UTC, about 118 kilometers south-southeast of False Pass at a shallow depth of 4.0 kilometers. The event was automatically reviewed and falls within a highly active seismic zone along the Pacific Plate boundary.

Shaking at this magnitude is typically too light to cause damage, and no disruptions have been reported in False Pass or nearby communities such as Cold Bay. The remote offshore location further reduces the likelihood of infrastructure impacts, including roads, ports, or utilities.

Alaska averages thousands of small earthquakes each year, especially along the Aleutian arc. Events at or below magnitude 3.0 are often only detected by instruments, though occasional light shaking can be felt if closer to населated areas.

Seismologists continue to monitor the region for aftershocks or additional activity. No advisories or warnings have been issued, but updates will follow if conditions change.
