False Alarm Disrupts Holiday Shoppers at Chicago Ridge Mall Days Before Christmas

Chicago Ridge, IL – Shoppers at the Chicago Ridge Mall were startled Sunday evening, just three days before Christmas, after reports of gunfire sent crowds fleeing toward exits.

According to a press release, the Chicago Ridge Police Department responded to the mall at approximately 7:20 p.m. following multiple 911 calls about shots fired. Officers determined there was no evidence of a shooting, and no injuries were reported. Witnesses described hearing a loud noise that caused panic as the crowded mall, bustling with last-minute holiday shoppers, descended into chaos.

An initial investigation revealed the incident to be a prank, allegedly carried out by a group of individuals inside the mall. Authorities confirmed there were no indications of gunfire and reassured the public that there was no ongoing threat to safety.

The incident briefly interrupted the shopping season for many, as customers sought to complete holiday purchases during one of the busiest weekends of the year. The Chicago Ridge Police Department is actively investigating and working to identify those responsible for the disruption.
