HOUSTON, Texas – A warm, dry wind rushes through the pine trees this morning, scattering leaves and kicking up dust as southeast Texas faces a dangerous fire-weather setup. Skies are clear, humidity is plunging, and gusts topping 35 mph are fanning critical conditions across the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Houston/Galveston, a Red Flag Warning remains in effect through this evening for much of southeast Texas, including Harris, Montgomery, Liberty, Brazoria, and Galveston counties. North winds of 15 to 25 mph, with gusts approaching 40 mph, combine with relative humidity as low as 15 percent to create ideal conditions for rapid fire growth. A Fire Weather Watch continues Monday as drier air lingers and fuels remain ready to ignite.

Residents are strongly urged to avoid outdoor burning, welding, or any activity that could spark a flame. Even routine yard work could accidentally trigger fast-spreading grass fires, especially along rural roads and undeveloped fields from Conroe to Wharton. Any small fire that develops today could spread uncontrollably within minutes.

The pattern eases slowly Monday, followed by calmer winds and cooler, pleasant sunshine through Veterans Day. Afternoon highs will dip to the upper 50s and lower 60s Monday, then rebound to the low 70s Tuesday—ideal for ceremonies and outdoor events. Late-week warmth will rebuild, with near-80-degree readings possible by Thursday before another mild front approaches next weekend.

For now, southeast Texas begins the week under a dangerous combination of heat, wind, and bone-dry air—a classic Red Flag setup marking one of fall’s highest wildfire risks to date.
