MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – A mild, breezy Thursday is unfolding across the Twin Cities and much of southern Minnesota as clouds increase ahead of a quick-moving cold front. Winds gusting 20 to 30 mph will accompany the front, bringing spotty rain showers mainly along and east of Interstate 35 by late afternoon. Most areas will see little accumulation, but a few damp roads could slow the evening commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Twin Cities, skies will clear overnight as the front passes, setting up a bright and cooler Friday with highs in the 60s. Overnight lows will dip into the 40s across most of the metro, and down toward the upper 30s in outlying areas. The front won’t bring any major temperature crash, but residents can expect noticeably crisper air for Friday football games and outdoor events.
Winds ease into Saturday as another system begins to organize in the Plains. Increasing clouds late in the day will signal the next round of more widespread rain expected by Sunday. The Twin Cities, Rochester, and Eau Claire areas could see steady showers lasting through much of the day, with locally heavy rainfall possible along I-94 and I-35 corridors.
Motorists are advised to watch for wet pavement Sunday morning, and outdoor plans should include backup options. Cooler, damp conditions are expected to linger into early next week, signaling a true mid-October fall pattern settling in.
