Pittsburgh, Pa. – Drivers in Pittsburgh should take note: sunny skies Wednesday will quickly turn into a stormy Thursday with heavy rain and potential thunder. The National Weather Service warns showers could arrive overnight and intensify by Thursday morning, making for a slick commute across I-79 and major roadways.

According to forecasters, rain chances climb to 100 percent Thursday, with thunderstorms possible throughout the day. Southwest winds will gust between 10 and 14 mph, adding to travel concerns. New rainfall totals could exceed a half-inch, especially during downpours. Drivers are urged to slow down on wet roads, allow extra travel time, and watch for ponding in low-lying areas.

Wednesday will stay warm and calm, with highs near 83 under sunny skies. By late Wednesday night, showers may develop as clouds build in from the south.

Thursday’s storms could briefly ease by evening before returning overnight, keeping roads damp into Friday morning. Friday will bring only light sprinkles, but clouds will linger with highs in the upper 70s. Weekend conditions turn more fall-like, with temperatures cooling into the lower 70s Saturday and Sunday under partly sunny skies.

Residents planning outdoor events, including Friday night football, should prepare for damp fields and slippery stands. Keep rain gear handy through Saturday, as scattered showers could affect outdoor gatherings.

Showers will taper Sunday into Monday, leaving drier, cooler weather early next week. More advisories may follow if storms intensify.
