Boston, MA – A rare burst of summerlike warmth will push temperatures into the 80s across eastern Massachusetts this weekend, delaying the usual October chill. Highs in Boston could reach 81 degrees Saturday and again Monday, far above normal for early fall.

According to the National Weather Service in Norton, clear skies and southwest breezes will dominate through Monday, keeping afternoons warm and evenings mild. Lows will only dip into the upper 50s to around 60, preventing any frost risk across Suffolk, Middlesex, and surrounding counties.

The pattern breaks by Tuesday night as a frontal system brings a 40 to 50 percent chance of showers across eastern Massachusetts, including Boston, Cambridge, and along I-93. Winds shift northwest behind the front Wednesday, cooling highs into the lower 70s with continued rain chances before dropping closer to seasonal 60s by Thursday.

MassDOT is urging drivers to prepare for slick roads during the midweek change. Outdoor events and late-season sports will see little disruption through the warm, dry stretch, but organizers should monitor updates for Tuesday night into Wednesday.

Residents are advised to dress in layers through the warm spell, stay hydrated if outdoors, and prepare for more typical October weather returning later next week. Gardeners and homeowners can hold off on frost protection until at least late next week, when colder nights may reappear.
