Jacksonville, Fla. – Dangerous marine and coastal conditions are expected to intensify along northeast Florida’s Atlantic beaches through the weekend, bringing rip currents, high surf, and coastal flooding hazards that may threaten property and beach access.

According to the National Weather Service in Jacksonville, a Coastal Flood Warning remains in effect through early Monday morning, with water levels expected to rise 1 to 3 feet above ground in vulnerable areas during high tide cycles. Rip Current and High Surf Advisories also extend into the weekend, with wave heights building to 8 feet or more offshore.

Officials warn that flooding is possible in low-lying coastal neighborhoods and along the Intracoastal Waterway, particularly at high tide. Portions of A1A and side streets near the shoreline could become impassable. Beach erosion is also likely, with heavy surf undermining dunes and damaging unprotected property.

The Florida Department of Transportation urged drivers to avoid flooded roadways, while local emergency managers advised residents to secure outdoor items, avoid walking near the surf, and prepare for restricted access at some beaches. NWS forecasters cautioned that dangerous swimming conditions will persist, with life-threatening rip currents expected across all northeast Florida beaches.

Travelers and residents are urged to remain alert to rapidly changing conditions, especially during evening high tides when flooding could worsen. Safety officials stressed avoiding non-essential beach travel, keeping mobile devices charged, and protecting vulnerable property, pets, and plants from saltwater intrusion.
