Tucson, Ariz. – Dangerous heat continues across southern Arizona as Tucson eyes triple-digit highs through Friday before temperatures ease slightly this weekend. The National Weather Service in Tucson warns of highs near 100 Friday, unusually hot for early October and enough to strain outdoor workers, pets, and sensitive groups.

According to the NWS Tucson office, overnight lows will only dip into the upper 60s to low 70s, offering limited relief. Winds will shift from the southwest to southeast at times, remaining light but occasionally gusting near 13 mph. Saturday and Sunday will bring some moderation, with highs near 92 under mostly sunny skies.

Officials urge residents to stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activity during peak heat, and never leave children or pets in vehicles. Tucson Electric Power notes that high demand for cooling may stress the grid during afternoon hours. Pima County Emergency Management advises checking on neighbors without reliable air conditioning as conditions remain well above seasonal averages.

The heat wave is expected to slowly retreat early next week. Highs will still reach the mid-90s Monday before falling toward the low 90s by Tuesday and Wednesday. According to forecasters, a weak disturbance may increase shower chances midweek, with a 20 percent probability of thunderstorms by Wednesday and Thursday afternoons. Any storms could bring gusty winds and brief localized cooling.

Travelers on I-10 and I-19 should prepare for heat stress, particularly during midday. Outdoor weekend events across Pima and Santa Cruz counties should account for strong sun exposure. Light winds mean wildfire danger remains moderate but not extreme.
