LOUISVILLE, Kentucky – A sharp blast of cold air will surge into Kentucky late Sunday, ushering in subfreezing temperatures and the first chance of light snow for parts of the region.

According to the National Weather Service in Louisville, a strong cold front will move through the area Sunday afternoon and evening. Rain showers are expected to transition briefly to snow as temperatures drop rapidly overnight. A light dusting of accumulation is possible, especially along and north of the Bluegrass Parkway.

By early Monday, wind chills are forecast to fall into the teens across much of central and northern Kentucky, with actual lows in the mid-20s. The bitter conditions will persist through Tuesday morning before a gradual midweek warm-up. “Even a light coating of snow could make untreated roads and bridges slick late Sunday night into the Monday commute,” forecasters cautioned.

Residents are urged to dress in layers, bring pets indoors, and protect outdoor pipes from freezing. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet advises motorists to reduce speed and watch for icy patches on overpasses and shaded stretches of I-64, I-65, and the Western Kentucky Parkway.

Though snow amounts will remain minimal, the cold will be the most intense of the season so far — a reminder that winter is quickly approaching across the Commonwealth.
