Fairmount, N.D. – A Fairmount woman was killed Tuesday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle while riding her bicycle in Richland County.

According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 3:49 p.m. Tuesday on County Road 81 in Fairmount. Authorities said a 2008 Toyota Yaris, driven by a 33-year-old woman from Hankinson, was traveling northbound when it rear-ended a bicycle. The 45-year-old rider from Fairmount was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers reported the bicyclist was not wearing a helmet. The driver of the Yaris, who was not using a seatbelt, sustained minor injuries.

The Highway Patrol said road and weather conditions were dry at the time of the crash. Responding agencies included the Richland County Sheriffโ€™s Office, Fairmount Fire Department, Hankinson Ambulance Service, Breckenridge Ambulance Service, and LifeLink III Air Ambulance.

Authorities stated that the crash remains under investigation, and potential charges are still being reviewed.
