Fairfax County, Virginia – Two people are dead after a stabbing and officer-involved shooting on Interstate 495 Saturday afternoon.

According to Virginia State Police, a trooper responded around 1:17 p.m. to a reported road rage incident on Interstate 495 southbound at Exit 52. Authorities said the situation escalated after a crash on the Beltway.

Police said the trooper was confronted by a male suspect allegedly armed with a knife. The trooper discharged his firearm in what officials described as self-defense.

The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Jared Llamado of McLean, was transported to a hospital with serious injuries and later died, according to state police.

Investigators said four stabbing victims were located at the scene. One victim, identified as 39-year-old Michelle Adams, later died from her injuries. A dog that was also stabbed died at the scene.

Three additional victims — Deana Bonnell, 36; Mary C. Flood, 37; and Heather Miller, 40 — were transported to area hospitals with serious injuries.

State police said the stabbing followed a crash on Interstate 495 southbound. The incident is not believed to be terrorism-related.

The trooper involved has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation, which remains ongoing.

The crash and investigation caused disruptions along the Beltway Saturday afternoon, affecting weekend travel in the Fairfax County corridor, a heavily used commuter route.

Virginia State Police said additional information will be released as it becomes available.
