Fairbanks, AK – A winter storm is forecasted to hit the Fairbanks area late tonight, bringing heavy snow, freezing rain, and strong winds. Snowfall is expected to start around midnight, continuing through Monday morning with accumulations between 4-6 inches.

According to the National Weather Service, the storm will transition to freezing rain by Monday afternoon. Rain on sub-freezing surfaces could lead to icy roads and dangerous travel. Winds will strengthen overnight, reaching speeds between 10 and 25 mph.

The storm will return to snow Monday evening, with an additional 2-4 inches expected. Temperatures will drop significantly, with lows in the 20s.

The weather is expected to clear temporarily Tuesday before more snow returns. By the storm’s end on Wednesday, another 1-3 inches of snow could accumulate, creating prolonged hazardous travel conditions. Residents are advised to avoid unnecessary travel and prepare for worsening conditions as temperatures drop throughout the storm.
