FAIRBANKS, Alaska – Strong winds are sweeping across Interior Alaska, with multiple wind advisories in effect through Friday morning and afternoon. The National Weather Service reports gusts as high as 55 mph are already hitting parts of Denali, Delta Junction, and the Alaska Range, while Fairbanks and surrounding communities brace for windy conditions Friday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Fairbanks, the heaviest impacts are expected in Delta Junction and the Eastern Alaska Range, where south winds of 35 to 45 mph with gusts up to 55 mph remain likely until 10 a.m. Friday. In the Northern Denali Borough, including Healy and the Parks Highway from Milepost 237 to 288, southwest winds up to 25 mph with gusts near 55 mph will linger until 4 a.m. Friday.
Fairbanks, North Pole, Eielson AFB, and nearby towns fall under a separate advisory from noon to 7 p.m. Friday, with gusts up to 40 mph expected. Communities including Manley Hot Springs, Tanana, and the Yukon Flats may also see unsecured items blown around and occasional power outages.
Drivers on the Parks, Richardson, and Steese Highways are urged to use caution, especially those operating high-profile vehicles. Residents should secure outdoor objects such as grills, trash bins, and patio furniture to prevent damage.
