FAIRBANKS, Alaska – Much of Alaska’s Interior may see accumulating snow from Wednesday through Saturday as a prolonged winter system develops across the region. The National Weather Service in Fairbanks says the highest likelihood for snow includes areas within a broad blue-shaded zone stretching across the central Interior, with a smaller red box highlighting where heavier snowfall is being monitored.
According to the Weather Service, guidance points to a long-duration light snow event capable of producing up to 6 inches or more in isolated spots. While confidence remains low in pinpointing exact totals, forecasters expect widespread snow to affect travel on major routes including the Parks, Richardson, and Steese Highways. Drivers should plan for slick and snow-covered roads, especially during early morning and overnight hours.
Fairbanks and nearby communities are likely to experience persistent light snow through late week, possibly turning heavier at times. Residents are urged to monitor forecasts and prepare for extended periods of winter driving conditions.
The National Weather Service will issue additional updates as the snow potential becomes clearer later this week.
